A Corpus-Driven Study of Terms Used to Refer to Articles and Methods in Research Abstracts in the Fields of Economics, Education, English Literature, Nursing, and Political Science

The present study attempts to identify the most frequent terms that are used in research abstracts relating articles designations, methods, and goals quantify them various disciplines, namely, economics, education, English literature, nursing, political science see whether there is a unique pattern characterizing peculiar each of five disciplines under investigation. It also explains why specific overused/ underused by researchers. current follows corpus-driven approach. For this purpose, we compiled corpus 2500 from online refereed journals fields mentioned above. linguistic software program, AntConc (3.5.8), was analyze collected data. analysis revealed some more frequently areas than others. example, term 'study' common word designate academic research. refer population subject-related 'sample/s,' while least 'interviewee/s.' words tools or instruments varied, with 'test' being 'checklist/s' least. This significant benefit for researchers disciplines. acquaints their respective fields, addition sample- related finally setting such as objectives, aims, goals. This, turn, can help graduate students embarking on writing theses opt relevant Unlike studies focused developing lists (AWL), set off previously established bodies unveil popularity extent which they discipline abstracts.
